Athens, March 2025
On Friday, March 14, 2025, students and professors from Mediterranean College, particularly from the Schools of Education and Psychology, visited Escape, where the Project Managers of KEAN – Cell of Alternative Youth Activities presented the organization’s European projects, including GameComp – Green EduGames.
During the visit, participants had the opportunity to learn about KEAN’s ongoing initiatives that promote youth empowerment, inclusion, and sustainable development. Special attention was given to the GameComp project, which focuses on equipping youth workers with innovative, game-based tools currently under development to foster sustainability competencies among young people and prepare them for the green transition.
Participation and Impact
The students and faculty showed great interest in understanding how gamified learning can be used as an effective methodology to engage young people with complex sustainability themes. Engaging discussions followed on the role of educational games in non-formal learning, the green transition, and how these approaches can contribute to environmental awareness and youth empowerment.
Educators from the Schools of Education and Psychology were particularly engaged by the potential of integrating game-based learning methodologies into both formal and non-formal educational settings — and expressed interest in participating in future piloting activities as the project’s tools and resources are finalized.
The GameComp – Green EduGames Programme
GameComp focuses on developing resources and tools that support youth workers in building young people’s sustainability competencies through gamified learning experiences. Its key pillars include:
- A Sustainability Competence Assessment Tool, guiding youth workers in identifying and developing green skills among young people.
- A library of game-based educational resources, offering interactive and engaging learning experiences on sustainability themes.
- A Youth Empowerment Toolkit, equipping young people to become proactive agents of change for environmental and sustainable development.
We thank Mediterranean College for this inspiring exchange and for their openness to exploring how innovative educational methodologies and sustainability can work together to shape a greener, more inclusive future.
