On Friday, November 29, 2024, a presentation of the European Programme GameComp – Green EduGames took place at the Municipal Hall of the Municipality of Amfilochia. The event was hosted by the Municipality of Amfilochia and attracted significant interest from the local community.
Ms. Raina Melissinou, Senior Project Manager at KEAN, presented the objectives and vision of the project, offering participants an overview of the game-based learning approach currently under development and its potential to transform how young people engage with sustainability themes.
Participation and Impact
The event brought together a total of 50 participants, primarily students from the Amfilochia Middle School, along with their teachers and members of the Municipality. During the presentation:
- Students showed great enthusiasm for the project’s vision and the game-based learning approach that is currently under development.
- Educators expressed particular interest in the potential of integrating the project’s forthcoming educational materials into the school curriculum.
- Participants were invited to register their interest in taking part in future project activities, including the piloting of the educational games once developed.
The GameComp – Green EduGames Programme
GameComp focuses on developing resources and tools that support youth workers in building young people’s sustainability competencies through gamified learning experiences. Its key pillars include:
- A Sustainability Competence Assessment Tool, guiding youth workers in identifying and developing green skills among young people.
- A library of game-based educational resources, offering interactive and engaging learning experiences on sustainability themes.
- A Youth Empowerment Toolkit, equipping young people to become proactive agents of change for environmental and sustainable development.
Conclusions
The success of the event at the Municipal Hall of Amfilochia demonstrates the value of collaboration between local authorities, schools, and organizations in supporting young people’s green transition. KEAN looks forward to welcoming the Amfilochia community as active participants in the next phases of GameComp, including the piloting and evaluation of the project’s game-based learning tools.
