Summary

- VOICES UNHEARD – Roma Children Leading the Way: Active Participation for a Brighter Future project aims to empower Roma children, especially girls, to actively participate in democratic processes and decision-making mechanisms that affect their lives at local, national, and European level. The project is implemented in Germany, Greece, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ukraine.

Although children's rights are protected through European and international frameworks, Roma children continue to be underrepresented in civic participation and public decision-making processes. VOICES UNHEARD addresses this challenge by establishing sustainable participation mechanisms that enable Roma children to express their views and influence issues that affect their communities and future.

The project will establish local Civic Labs and Children's Councils in four communities: Evrotas (Greece), Zvezdara (Serbia), Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and Uzhhorod (Ukraine). Through training activities, advocacy actions, networking opportunities, and capacity-building initiatives, children will strengthen their knowledge of children's rights, democratic participation, leadership, public speaking, and digital skills.

In parallel, the project will create a transnational Roma children's network, develop digital participation tools, and strengthen cooperation among children, municipalities, schools, and civil society organisations. Special attention is given to the inclusion of Roma girls and children facing multiple forms of vulnerability and exclusion.

In the long term, VOICES UNHEARD aims to establish sustainable participation structures that will ensure Roma children's voices are heard and considered in local governance and decision-making processes, contributing to more inclusive and democratic societies across Europe.
