The "Geo-ergon Paideia" (in Greek: Georgon Paideia - Georgon Paidias) is a transnational exchange programme that aims to train secondary school students to become future eco-farmers. The main objective of the project is to implement a sustainable strategic partnership strategy between European universities, research centres, municipalities and schools in order to strengthen the concept of agricultural education and sustainable development in rural areas through an integrated interdisciplinary approach.
The University of the Aegean coordinates the project and is also responsible for the management of the project. One school from Greece (Geraki High School in Laconia), one school from Romania (Adrian V. Radulescu High School), the Municipality of Eurota (Greece) and the Municipality of Murfatlar (Romania) form the partnership together with the IZES Research Institute (Germany) and the NGO KEAN (Greece).

The objectives of the project are:

1. Creation of a series of online open courses on ecological agriculture and the establishment of new businesses
2. Teaching agricultural entrepreneurship to school students
3. Provide a learning environment for current and future eco-farmers in innovative entrepreneurship
4. Empowering a large number of students, parents and stakeholders to create or develop their own business
5. Supporting school students, through capacity building, to ensure the sustainability of the natural environment and the development of the local economy.
6. Develop a network involving students, stakeholders, entrepreneurs, academic professionals to promote innovation and sustainability in the agricultural sector in rural areas.
7. Strengthening transnational cooperation between schools in Europe.

The programme is aimed at students in the second grade of secondary school, living in selected rural areas in Greece and Romania. In addition to students, the participants in the project (about 200) included farmers, students' parents, local and governmental authorities, young entrepreneurs, academic professionals and researchers and stakeholders.
The training programme was organised with the following transnational learning activities:
a) Open "Start-up Farm" courses to school students at the high school of Geraki in Greece
b) Open "Start-up Farm" courses to school students at the Adrian V. Radulesku High School in Romania; and
c) Experiential learning workshop in Saarbrücken (Germany) through a study visit to the IZES research institute and the Bliesgau UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Through multiplier events (Local Stakeholder Workshops and Final Event - Networking) all stakeholders participated in a social dialogue for the development of the eco-agriculture business sector, the exchange of knowledge, good practices and innovative entrepreneurship methods.

This project aimed to develop an integrated approach to bridge the gap between skills, education and labour market needs at local level in the agricultural sector, which could potentially serve as a model for future use and adaptation. In addition, this project sought to promote interdisciplinary collaboration between different organisations, institutions and stakeholders. The development of a network of stakeholders has fostered the exchange of good practices and further collaboration leading to potential synergies.
