Final Event of the project «Startup farm: Skills for future eco-farmers»
(Geo Ergon Paideia)
The Final Event of the project «Startup farm: Skills for future eco-farmers» (Geo Ergon Paideia), which was organized by NGO KEAN in cooperation with the University of the Aegean (UAegean), was successfully held on September 17, 2018 at the Conference Room at “Natura Shop” within the Park of Environmental Awareness “Antonis Tritsis”.
The event was supported by the Park’s Management Body and “Ypaithros Chora” was its media sponsor.
Representatives of the project’s partners and of public entities participated in the event with speeches and presentations.
The Project Coordinator and Associate Professor of the Department of Environment of the University of the Aegean, Mr Demetris F. Lekkas welcomed the attendants to the event and the Panel Coordinator and journalist Mr Yiannis Sarros conveyed the greetings of the Minister of Rural Development & Food, Mr Stavros Arachovitis, who was not able to attend the event due to prior commitments.
The Mayor of Evrotas, Mr Dimos Verdos, attended the event and gave a welcome speech on behalf of the Municipality of Evrotas that constitutes one of the project’s partners, followed by the greeting speech of the former Alternate Minister of Rural Development, Mr Dimitrio Mela.
The former Mayor of Evrotas, Mr Ioannis Gripiotis, presented and described the conception stage of the project and the benefits for the rural region of Evrotas, while the Project Coordinator, Mr Demetris F. Lekkas displayed the whole progress of the project, the achieved objectives and outcomes as well as the interactive educational tools which were developed and produced during the project and are available and accessible to all through the e-learning Platform and interaction and collaboration space «Geo-Ergon Paideia».
The Director of the Junior High School of Geraki (Gymnasium of Geraki, Lakonia-Greece), Mr. Antonis Christoforakos, and the Director of the Junior High School “Adrian V. Radulescu” (Scoala Gimnaziala Adrian V. Radulescu, Murfatlar – Romania), Mrs Ene Ulgean shared the experience gained by both the teachers and the students through the transnational learning, teaching and training activities focusing on agricultural education, agricultural business planning and on environmental management and highlighted the significance and the benefits of the interaction between schools and municipalities.
During the event the Future “Eco-Farmers” – the students of Junior High School of Geraki and of Junior High School “Adrian V. Radulescu” talked about the experience of their participation and presented the business plans that created during the project.
The representative of the research institute “IZES gGMBH” (Germany), Mr. Bernhard Wern, gave a speech on “The Importance of Geo-Ergon Paideia project and Way Forward”.
The President of NGO KEAN, Mr. Stavros Milionis spoke about the “Network-Cluster of Future Eco-Farmers”, which has been developed at international level (Greece, Romania and Germany) within the framework of the project and with the aim to promote innovative entrepreneurship (agri-food sector, environment, tourism and culture) and sustainable rural development, including pupils, teachers, research institutes and universities, public and private entities, businesses and social cooperatives, while pointed out the need to attract young people to get involved in the agricultural sector and preserve their rural heritage.
The event was concluded with the awarding of the schools and the students participating in the project.
