Fishing and Tourism: Creating benefits for the local communities of the Eastern Peloponnese

The Project Fishing and Tourism: creating benefits for the local communities of the Eastern Peloponnese and Evrotas aims to create and strengthen organic links between fisheries and tourism. As the two activities in the area of reference are fragmented and one-dimensional so far, they represent a very good opportunity to develop partnerships which will combine the most neutral environmental footprint possible with the promotion of the natural resources of the area. In the framework of the project activities, the project beneficiary will organise 4 training workshops with local stakeholders, in particular with local fishermen, public authorities, the local tourism industry and civil society on the development potentials of blue tourism activities based on the local fishing heritage and tradition. At the same time, the 4 workshops will work in a bidirectional way, providing the implementing agency's experts with primary data for the development of a relevant digital best practices e-handbook, which will combine the local approach with internationally documented international practices to produce locally applicable solutions. At the same time, the findings will form the basis for the creation of a blue tourism platform, which will embody existing data and remain open to completion by the general public and which will serve as a valid information guide to blue tourism. The two pillars (training seminars and e-handbook/blue tourism platform) will be presented in their final form at a special scientific event, open to the general public and with the participation of experts, in order to clarify their potential role in a sustainable development policy. At the same time and within the context of the event, the results of a special experiential environmental education activity will be presented, under the supervision of a qualified teacher, aiming to educate the young audience in the protection of the marine environment and the perception of its connection with local tradition and heritage. Finally, the project will be complemented with appropriate activities and publicity actions.

Argosaronic Sea: aspects of the long maritime tradition

The present project aims to publish a collectible historical work which will reflect the history of the area from antiquity to the present day, covering the entire historical spectrum of the maritime and fishing tradition of the islands of the Saronic Gulf. In general, the aim of this action will be to promote the area as an attractive tourist destination. The research and writing should be carried out by a renowned scientific team with extensive experience in this field.
The project aims to present the maritime and fishing history and tradition of the islands of the Saronic Gulf with the ultimate goal of promoting the region as an attractive tourist destination. By making available the collectible-historical publication on the area, the tourist public will be able to access information on the history of the area and discover new points of interest. The possibility of using QR codes printed on the publications is going to provide convenience in reading the book from any location. In this way the tourist public will have greater ease in finding the information they need. In summary, the results of the described operation are expected to give a new impetus to the tourism activity of the Argosaronic Islands, creating opportunities for the development of business activity in the tourism sector, which is of major importance for the region.
The publication will make use of the existing literature, while rare archival documents will be included, as well as documents from local collections, testimonies, etc. In addition, modern photographic shots of monuments and sites of special interest will be taken, and for a more complete documentation of the project there will be assistance from major museums and institutions in the country, as well as cooperation with local cultural institutions. The research and writing of the project will be undertaken by a renowned scientific team with a wealth of experience in this field. The project will be implemented in four stages as follows:
1) Research-Study on archival sources and existing literature
2) Collection of material - Writing of texts
3) Image Processing, Corrections and Finalization
4) Production - Printing and Binding
