Unaccompanied minors (under 18) made up 12.4% of asylum seekers in Greece in 2017(Eurostat). In June 2017, 16% of children arriving in Greece were UAMs (UNHCR, UNICEF and IOM). These children, victims of the migration crisis, are vulnerable as they risk becoming victims of sex-trade.
Sex-trade is a form of labour typically done for profit while child prostitution is prostitution involving a child. It is a form of commercial sexual exploitation of children.
More and more migrant and refugee children, primarily unaccompanied, left to fend for themselves, resort to selling or trading their body to adult clients who are benefitting from this and generating demand for this activity.
LET’S PROTECT CHILDREN
FROM LABOUR EXPLOITATION
Today, KEAN – Cell for Alternative Youth Initiatives calls for an end to the exploitation of unaccompanied minor migrant and refugee children, especially in parks in Athens.
As an open, social youth community constantly promoting universal values, peace, human progress, human rights and human well-being, KEAN feels concerned by the fate of UAMs.
STOP CHILD PROSTITUTION!!!
