AI4YouthWork Project Achieves Key Milestones: Progress in AICompetence Framework and Educational ResourcesDevelopment

The AI4YouthWork project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, continues to make significant progress in developing tools and frameworks that empower youth workers to integrate Artificial Intelligence into their practice. Following the successful launch earlier this year, the project’s consortium, consisting of partners from Italy, Romania, Portugal, and Greece, has now reached key milestones in the creation of its AI Competence Framework and is preparing to launch its innovative digital catalogue of AI learning resources. These resources aim to integrate AI into youth work and support professionals in enhancing their AI competencies.

AI4YouthWork Focus Groups Reveal Key AI Competencies for Youth Workers
Between May and June 2024, the AI4YouthWork project conducted focus groups across Italy, Romania, Greece, and Portugal. Youth workers explored the use of AI tools like ChatGPT, Canva, and MidJourney, identifying their potential to improve youth engagement and administrative tasks. Participants highlighted both the benefits, such as increased efficiency, and the challenges, like data privacy concerns and skill gaps. The insights from these sessions play a crucial role in shaping the AI Competence Framework and facilitating the development of AI training resources for youth workers across Europe.
Key Milestones and Project Progress

  1. AI Competence Needs for Youth Workers Research Report
The AI4YouthWork project has released the AI Competence Needs for Youth Workers Report. This comprehensive report consolidates findings from desk research and focus groups conducted across Italy, Romania, Greece, and Portugal, identifying the key competencies youth workers need to effectively integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their practice. The report highlights critical areas where AI skills can enhance youth work, providing valuable insights for future training programs and tools. This research forms the foundation for the project’s AI Competence Framework, which aims to empower youth workers across Europe.

  2. AI Competence Framework for Youth Workers
A critical development of the project is the AI Competence Framework, which outlines the essential AI skills, knowledge, and attitudes required for youth workers to engage effectively with AI. Developed through extensive research and consultation, the framework outlines competencies across different proficiency levels and offers practical recommendations for skill development.

  3. AI Competence Framework for Youth Workers: Validation Report
The AI Competence Framework for Youth Workers: Validation Report presents the findings from the validation process, detailing the methodology, survey results, and feedback gathered from youth workers across Europe, offering recommendations for improving the framework. The report provides insights into the relevance of the framework and its practical application in youth work, helping guide further development in AI competence.

  4. Development of the Digital Catalogue of AI Learning Experiences
Another significant achievement is the ongoing development of the Digital Catalogue of AI Learning Experiences, which will feature 48 Open Educational Resources (OERs). Each of these resources is designed to help youth workers build AI-related skills through engaging content such as quizzes, videos, and learning games. The OERs will be available in multiple languages, ensuring accessibility across the partner countries.
  5. Empowering Youth Work with AI
The AI4YouthWork project is a collaboration, designed to enhance the AI competencies of youth workers
across Europe. The consortium includes Lascò (Italy), TEAM4Excellence (Romania), CONTEXTOS
(Portugal), and KEAN (Greece). Over the course of 24 months, the project aims to provide youth
workers with the tools and knowledge they need to incorporate AI into their everyday practice, ultimately improving the quality and reach of youth work.
